| | Breast cancer treatments can be highly effective at removing and destroying cancer cells. However, these therapies can also cause side effects such as pain, fatigue, loss of appetite, and mood changes. At the same time, you may also be grappling with difficult emotions around your condition.
Some research suggests that complementary therapies like these may help you cope with these secondary side effects: | | • | Receiving acupuncture from a licensed acupuncturist may ease drug-induced joint pain, and improve chemotherapy side effects like nausea and vomiting. | | | • | Getting a professional massage may help ease pain, fatigue, and anxiety. | | | • | Practicing yoga can help improve sleep, beat fatigue, reduce pain, and ease symptoms of depression and treatment-induced menopause. | | | • | Following a mindfulness practice may improve symptoms of stress, depression, and anxiety. | | | Does it matter what I eat and drink? | | While food cannot cure cancer, following a balanced diet is an important way to keep your body strong through treatment. And if you enter remission, it may even reduce your risk of recurrence. | | | | Eating healthy may not always be possible — and that's OK | During treatment, you may experience side effects like fatigue, low appetite, nausea, and a sore mouth that make it hard to follow an intentional eating pattern.
