Welcome to your BusinessLive North West weekend newsletter

Welcome to the latest edition of our BusinessLive North West weekend email newsletter - a chance to get up to speed on what's been happening - as well as a look at what's to come.

This week BusinessLive reported how two high-profile businesses had fallen foul of the UK's advertising watchdog.

The Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) said that PrettyLittleThing, which is part of the Boohoo group, had used "socially irresponsible" images of a 16-year-old model in an ad that depicted her in a sexual manner.

The images appeared on the retailer's website in June, with the brand ambassador modelling her Y2K Edit clothing collection.

In a seperate ruling, the ASA also banned an advert for meal replacement brand Huel that appeared on Steven Bartlett's podcast The Diary Of A CEO.

It appeared in March during an episode titled 'World's Leading Psychologist: How To Detach From Overthinking and Anxiety: Dr Julie Smith E122'.

It was also revealed this week that almost 900 jobs were lost at a national hotel chain as it battled the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Warrington-headquartered Village Hotel Club shed 870 jobs during 2021 as it bounced back from a pre-tax loss of £126.3m in 2020.

The company achieved a pre-tax profit of £40.9m while its turnover increased from £86.4m to £139.9m.

Those figures compare to the turnover of £215.5m and pre-tax profit of £7.6m it posted in the year before the pandemic, 2019.

Another exclusive story from BusinessLive was the news that a family business owed more than £1.3m when it collapsed into administration.

The business comprised a farming and haulage division. The 1,800-acre farming division grew fresh vegetables and salad produce across Lancashire, Merseyside and Cheshire for customers including Aldi, Booths, HelloFresh and a number of food service providers across the UK.

Its transport division was sold to Preston-based Len Wright Salads, a move that saved 42 jobs, but its farming arm had ceased to trade at the end of April, with the loss of 35 roles.

It was also revealed how a pair of businesses behind two hotels owned by Signature Living had also entered administration.

Advisory firm Kroll has been appointed to Loyola Hall Limited, which runs Rainhill Hall, and Signature Living Preston Limited, the company that runs The Shankly Hotel in the city.

The Sunday e-mails will take a two-week break and will return in September.

Have a great rest of your weekend!
