From one “hot labor summer” to the next: Below-the-line workers will sit down with the Hollywood studios Monday to begin talks for new film and TV contracts. All eyes, metaphorically speaking, are on the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers‘ Sherman Oaks offices, as IATSE and the Hollywood Basic Crafts link arms to discuss pension and health plans — the first step in a lengthy negotiation process that will likely extend well into the summer. Though Monday marks the official start of these negotiations, sources tell Deadline that IATSE already had preliminary talks with the Carol Lombardi-led AMPTP last month. >>>Negotiations Timeline Related: IATSE Boss Matthew Loeb On “Precarious” Situation In Hollywood Union Leaders Rally Members Of Crew Unions Before AMPTP Talks Begin |

ANGEL STUDIOS CEO NEAL HARMON ON FOLLOWING 'SOUND OF FREEDOM', LEARNING FROM FAILURE AND LETTING THE AUDIENCE SHAPE THE SLATE |
|
Neal Harmon isn't a fixture in the usual show business haunts, but he and his brothers have built Utah-based Angel Studios into a money-making object of Hollywood curiosity. While it isn't the only distributor specializing in faith-based entertainment, the company has several unique business practices. One of those, a "pay-it-forward" ticket sales setup, was a key part of Sound of Freedom, grossing nearly $250 million worldwide last summer. Another is the Angel Guild, a group of 250,000 volunteers in more than 150 countries who weigh in on all projects released by the company. (Up next is Cabrini, a period biopic coming to theaters on Friday.) "One of the things that’s a little tricky for the industry to understand is the fact that the Angel Guild – a quarter-million people who vote on which projects we take – that we truly don’t take anything to market without them," Harmon says. "I don’t think people truly understand that or believe it, and over time, they will. They’ll understand because I think we’ll outperform the rest of the market because of their knowledge." >>> Read The Interview |
