	Bhutan reopens with $200 tourist tax in test for sustainable travel THIMPHU -- The tiny Himalayan kingdom of Bhutan has reopened to tourists after a long COVID-19 shutdown, but with a steep hike in the tourist tax and other changes designed to keep the country a high-end, sustainable destination.   Many tour operators, still reeling from the pandemic, are worried the new fee will deter visitors, with the changes likely to serve as a trial of sorts to other global destinations looking to avoid the perils of overtourism.
