| Imagine Greasbrough Youth U11s or your kids' football team packing out a 250,000 seater stadium!
Well, that's our challenge for you lovely Kick N Mixers! Don't worry, we've not completely lost our minds. We're not expecting you to multiply your usual crowd of 25 by 10,000 when your new seasons kick off this month. Nope, we're talking about helping us fill a virtual stadium as part of a brilliant initiative for such an important cause: Helping kids tackle blood cancer. We're sure that the grassroots community will join the call from Cure Leukaemia for the football family to come together in support of their £10million FINISH-IT! campaign. |
| At Kick N Mix we're proud to be backing a mission which aims to raise hugely significant funding for a new National Children's Blood Cancer Trials Network. This UK-wide paediatric clinical trials programme will deliver new innovative treatments to improve outcomes for children with blood cancer. Fans across the world are being encouraged to buy a £14 virtual seat in a 250,000-capacity virtual stadium. The beauty of the campaign is that as well as harnessing the power, reach and influence of the professional game, the charity wants to tap into the community and competitiveness of our grassroots game too. You can buy the seats in the name of your favourite team - whether that be Arsenal, Halesowen Town FC, Greasbrough Youth U11s or whoever you support - and there is a leaderboard to keep tabs on which team has sold the most seats. The reason we keep name-checking Greasbrough Youth U11s is because that's the team of Jude Hawkridge, a little legend helping Cure Leukaemia promote FINISH-IT! Ten-year-old Jude has been cancer free for the past 10-and-a-half months after a brave three-year battle with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia (ALL). Unsurprisingly, the inspirational Leeds United fanatic, from Rotherham, has been given loads of support from his football mates. Be warned - Greasbrough Youth are setting the pace at the top of the FINISH IT! leaderboard, so hurry up and buy seats in your team's name to give them a run for their money! James McLaughlin, the CEO of Cure Leukaemia and friend of Kick N Mix, has also roped in his own son's team Hampton and Solihull U11s to spread the word about the campaign. James told us: "When Carl Ikeme, Geoff Thomas and Stiliyan Petrov were diagnosed, the world of football put rivalries aside and were fantastic in raising substantial sums of money for Cure Leukaemia. "However, there is still so much more to do in the fight against blood cancer. "We would therefore love football fans across the world to buy a £14 seat to help us sell out Cure Leukaemia's brand new 250,000 Virtual Stadium. "In doing so, we will have the largest stadium in the world and the football community will be playing a pivotal role in helping to deliver new treatments and provide more hope for children with blood cancer." |
| The idea is to pack out the 250,000 capacity virtual stadium with loads of team names, all coming together in support of one collective goal - helping Cure Leukaemia FC raise 10 million quid. Every 14 minutes, someone in the UK is diagnosed with a form of blood cancer with 250,000 people currently living with blood cancer across the country. Blood cancer is the third-biggest cancer killer in the UK and has affected the football community, including Petrov, Sol Bamba, David Brooks, Ikeme, Thomas, Rebekah Stott, Joe Thompson and Gary Lineker's son, George.
To help support the launch, the Linekers recently visited Great Ormond Street Hospital where George was treated as a baby following his diagnosis at only six weeks old. You can find out more about how to support the fight against blood cancer here.
