This is not just about football, it's about representation for all girls

"You have all set an example that will be an inspiration for girls and women today, and for future generations. It is my hope that you will be as proud of the impact you have had on your sport as you are of the result today." ELIZABETH R

When my daughter was seven, she signed up to the local football club. For months, she was the only girl. And I was so proud of her, turning up week after week, playing matches against other clubs - almost always the only female player on the pitch.

By the end of that first season, two more girls had signed up to the team. Eighteen months later and the club has set up a whole new team for girls - the Weetabix Wildcats. Both my daughters are playing and girls from schools all around the area are joining in their droves.

Maybe none of them will grow up to become professional footballers, maybe they will. But the Lionesses have proved that it's not only possible to play professionally, you can even become the very best in the world.

I was so proud last night, watching that game with my two girls. We'll all remember *that* tournament when football came home to England - and it was the women who did it.
