| Good afternoon Gurpartap, From First Nations people to descendants of settlers and new immigrants, we all cherish our country's freedoms and opportunity for prosperity. Today, as we prepare to celebrate Australia Day, people from all walks of life share what they love about our country and why we are the envy of the world. 'IT'S NOT LUCK' Despite facing our worst terror attack, former prime ministers have joined forces with Anthony Albanese, Sussan Ley and others to call for the Australia they want. 'Whether your ancestors have loved and cared for this land for 65,000 years and more or whether you join our Australian family today, pledging your loyalty to our people, our values and our democracy at citizenship ceremonies around our nation, all of us count ourselves lucky to call Australia home', writes prime minister Anthony Albanese. 'IT'S SO GOOD' Todd Woodbridge and Jess Fox have revealed what makes Australia special to them, as singer Kate Ceberano and TV host Peta Credlin reflect on what makes our country great. "I've got a connection to Alexandra where the bushfires hit earlier this month. You saw the CFA volunteers out there putting everything on the line for their community. We saw it with Bondi shootings as well, when we really needed to pull together. We, as Australians, have this unique ability to front up for one another when it's needed most. I think that quality separates Australia from every other nation", writes Todd Woodbridge. More 'THANKFUL, GRATEFUL, PROUD'A Gunewardena family are excited to celebrate their first Australia Day as citizens tomorrow after immigrating from Sri Lanka over five years ago. Rukshani Gunewardena said her family were thrilled to finally call themselves Australian after receiving their citizenship certificates at a ceremony in December last year. "On our first Australia Day as citizens, I am thankful, grateful, proud, and happy to call Australia home," she said. See the photos. More |
