| | Feb. 27, 2025 More than two years after opening, Southside Elementary finally has a permanent name: Lori Mann Carey Elementary. Mann Carey was an MMSD alumna, a teacher and a lifelong advocate for educational opportunity in Madison. She and her siblings founded the Mann Educational Opportunity Fund, which provides scholarships and mentoring for Madison high schoolers. (Remember when "Schooly McSchoolface" was — sort of — on the table? This is way better.) In other good news, a few Madison-area businesses are offering special menus (or throwing parties) in the spirit of Mardi Gras. The Madison Club's special menu (available from March 4-6) includes crawfish etouffee and po' boys. Other Fat Tuesday-inspired events will be held at Northside Lounge, Lola's Hi/Lo Lounge, Working Draft Brewing Company, Essen Haus, Merchant and High Noon Saloon, with music and drink specials inspired by New Orleans classics.
