More than two years after opening, Southside Elementary finally has a permanent name: Lori Mann Carey Elementary.

Mann Carey was an MMSD alumna, a teacher and a lifelong advocate for educational opportunity in Madison. She and her siblings founded the Mann Educational Opportunity Fund, which provides scholarships and mentoring for Madison high schoolers. (Remember when "Schooly McSchoolface" was — sort of — on the table? This is way better.)

In other good news, a few Madison-area businesses are offering special menus (or throwing parties) in the spirit of Mardi Gras. The Madison Club's special menu (available from March 4-6) includes crawfish etouffee and po' boys. Other Fat Tuesday-inspired events will be held at Northside LoungeLola's Hi/Lo LoungeWorking Draft Brewing CompanyEssen HausMerchant and High Noon Saloon, with music and drink specials inspired by New Orleans classics. Laissez les bons temps rouler!

"In the 608" with News 3 Now's Josh Spreiter

The most recent highlights from Josh Spreiter's "In the 608" morning segment on News 3 Now

From Josh: On Monday night, former News 3 Now anchor Leah Linscheid (left) and I hosted Trivia Night with Andy North at The Sylvee, a local fundraiser for the UW Health Carbone Cancer Center. Pro golfer and cancer survivor Andy North (center) has been a champion for cancer research for years, and it was such a fun and inspiring evening. It was successful, too: We surpassed last year's record and raised $130,000 for cancer research.
