Trump's hush-money sentencing will have to wait

A win for Trump: The delay over charges related to the Stormy Daniels payments extends sentencing three weeks past election day. A federal judge accused Donald Trump's lawyers of trying to stop potentially damaging evidence of his effort to overturn his 2020 election loss from becoming public before the election. Read how the Justice Dept.'s lawyers are trying to pursue that case without limiting the power of Joe Biden and future presidents.
In other news: Kamala Harris' presidential campaign and the Democratic Party have the advantage over Trump with $404 million in cash as of the beginning of September. Harris and Trump will debate on Tuesday with muted microphones. Trump has a job lined up for Elon Musk in case he wins, one that would let him change the rules for corporate America -- and his own companies.

Israeli strikes kill more Gazans

Destruction: At least two dozen people died in the attacks across the strip on Friday while health officials resumed polio vaccinations for tens of thousands of children. Israeli forces pulled out of Jenin in the West Bank, leaving a mass of damaged buildings and infrastructure. They shot and killed a Turkish-American woman who was protesting against settlement expansion.
Education and politics: Israel does not need to keep troops in the southern Gazan border area and this should not present an obstacle to a ceasefire deal with Hamas, said Benny Gantz, a rival to Benjamin Netanyahu and a former general. Israel's ultra-Orthodox parties are testing the unity of Netanyahu's coalition government by demanding the same benefits as state-run schools.

Zelenskiy doesn't get his way on long-range weapons

No: That was what appeared to be Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin's verdict on Volodymyr Zelenskiy's plea to use western nations' long-range weaponry to strike targets inside Russia. Zelenskiy overhauled his cabinet. Ukraine said it is investigating the alleged Russian shooting of three surrendering Ukraine servicemen.
Yes: Telegram boss Pavel Durov said the messaging app will tackle criticism of its content moderation and remove some features that people used for illegal activity. Durov is detained and under investigation in France in connection with the use of Telegram for fraud, money laundering and images of child sex abuse.

From chip shop to chop shop

Selling opportunities: Nvidia scored the biggest one-day loss in market value for a U.S. company this week, dropping almost $300 billion of its market value as investors curbed their enthusiasm for artificial intelligence. Fellow chipmaker Broadcom disturbed investors with a tepid revenue forecast. And Qualcomm might buy pieces of Intel's chip-design business as Intel looks to prop itself up and generate cash.
In-flight excitement: Airlines are examining their Airbus A350 planes after Cathay Pacific found 15 planes that needed fuel-line repairs following the in-flight failure of an engine part that forced a passenger plane to dump fuel and return to Hong Kong. The investor pushing for changes at Southwest Airlines now owns enough shares to force a meeting with management. Volkswagen is in crisis while its former CEO hasn't been able to scrub off the dieselgate.

- A Vistara Airlines plane en route from Mumbai to Frankfurt made an emergency landing after someone found a note in the lavatory that said there was a bomb on board. The threat was false.
- Olympian Rebecca Cheptegei's death at the hands of her former boyfriend has turned the spotlight on domestic violence in Kenya.
- The kids might not believe us, but there was a time when Canada was proud to welcome newcomers. Not anymore. A judge left in place a block on a White House legalization program for immigrant spouses of U.S. citizens.
- Italy's culture minister walked the plank after he gave his former mistress, a self-proclaimed fashion entrepreneur, a consultancy job.
- There is no link between mobile phones and brain cancer, a WHO-backed study said.
- China warned students that "handsome men and beautiful women" could lure them into spying. No such offer has come my way, though one can always hope.
