Regeneration group to limit projects as uncertainty looms

Regeneration company Urban Splash is to limit its projects, saying it is "taking a cautious approach to new development activity" amid a raft of cost factors.

The company, based in Manchester, has properties in key towns and cities across the UK including in Sheffield, Birmingham, Cambridge, Bristol and Bradford, but is issuing a note of caution due to the "unprecedented levels of uncertainty and the prospect of a lasting economic downturn".

The company's change in strategy comes as it weighs up the lasting effects of Covid-19, the war in Ukraine and the UK cost of living crisis, with it detailing how interest rates, inflation, consumer confidence, economic growth, uncertain political climate and levels of employment can all reduce demand for its new properties.

The company outlines its plans in its latest accounts, covering the year to September 2021 and approved by the directors two weeks ago, which are covered here.

Two leisure firms - North West based New World Trading Co and Danieli Group in the North East - certainly won't be hitting the pause button with their growth plan, and are now set to accelerate UK expansion.

A number of cities around the UK are already home to one or more leisure venue operated by New World Trading Co - under its brands including The Botanist, The Florist, The Club House, The Canal House and The Smugglers Cove. The business will soon be on the hunt for premises for many more bars and restaurants to add to its 35-strong stable.

The firm is aiming to open between five and eight new venues a year, creating around 500 jobs annually, with sites in Edinburgh, Durham, Sunderland, Barnsley and a second site in Chester already in progress for 2023. Read more on its plans here.

Meanwhile, Newcastle's Danieli Group has unveiled plans for a new Stack site in Lincoln which involve the conversion of its former Argos store into an impressive drinking and dining complex, having already scored successes on Tyneside and Wearside.

More sites could also be on the way too, which you can read about here.

Thanks for reading this week's round-up - catch up next Thursday.
