The Pinal County Board of Supervisors appointed seven candidates from a pool of 86 applicants to serve as San Tan Valley's first town council.

The new council members—Tyler Hudgins, Bryan Hunt, Gia Jenkins, Daniel Oakes, Daren Schnepf, Brian Tyler, and Rupert Wolfert—were chosen following interviews with all of the applicants.

The appointments follow an August vote in which the community of about 120,000 approved a measure to incorporate as a town.

Council members will be sworn in during a ceremony at the Central Arizona College campus in San Tan Valley on Sept. 25 and will serve until an open election is held in August 2026.

Gas prices in Phoenix have climbed about 50 cents over the past month, bringing the average to $3.86 per gallon, well above the national average of $3.20.

The average price in Tucson was $3.27 as of Thursday, according to AAA. Statewide, the average price was $3.60, up about 30 cents in a month. You can track gas prices here.

It's not unusual for Phoenix's prices to be higher than elsewhere in the state, with seasonal refinery maintenance, supply constraints, and longer transport distances often cited as factors.

Short-term relief is expected in the coming weeks with the introduction of winter-grade gasoline, which could lower prices by 10 to 30 cents over the next four to six weeks, an industry analyst says.
