Gas Prices Surge on Refinery Outage

Flooding that shut down the BP Whiting Refinery in Indiana last week has triggered sharp increases in gas prices across the Great Lakes region, including Ohio. The refinery is the largest in the Midwest.

Ohio's statewide average gas price jumped 27 cents to $3.32 per gallon. The most expensive areas include Lawrence County, Cincinnati, and Columbus, where prices climbed to $3.40 or higher.

Northeast Ohio saw some of the steepest increases, with Cleveland up 31 cents and Akron up 33 cents. Across the state, pump prices ranged widely from $2.48 to $4.49 per gallon.

Chick-fil-A Plans Major Expansion

Chick-fil-A plans to open 25 to 30 new Ohio restaurants by the end of 2027, an expansion expected to create up to 3,000 full- and part-time jobs statewide.

Planned sites in central Ohio include Groveport, Lancaster, Whitehall, Marysville, Hilliard, and Athens.

Nine additional restaurants are slated for northeast Ohio, with others planned across southwest Ohio. The first openings are expected this fall and winter.

Chick-fil-A opened its first Buckeye State location in Cleveland in 1979 and currently operates more than 80 sites across the state. More information on planned locations is available here.

List: Safest Wealthy Cities

Five Ohio cities rank among the nation's 50 safest and wealthiest places to live, according to a GOBankingRates analysis.

Ottawa Hills placed No. 6 nationally, followed by Upper Arlington at No. 10, Hudson at No. 12, Madeira at No. 15, and Wyoming at No. 25.
