| | | | AD | Pet insurance could help you offset rising veterinary costs | | Veterinarians nationwide reported that corporate managers pushed clinics to focus on profit, with vets often paid based on revenue. This encouraged them to see more pets, order more tests, and upsell services, creating a growing burden for uninsured pet owners. Pet insurance could help you offset some of these rising costs, with some providing up to 90% reimbursement. | | WHAT WE'RE WATCHING | | 🔍 Senate exposed that nothing has changed one year after Butler shooting. A report by Sen. Rand Paul's (R-KY) committee detailed how the Secret Service failed Donald Trump during the Butler, PA, assassination attempt one year ago. "Despite those failures," Paul concludes, "no one has been fired. And we only know what little discipline was handed out because I issued a subpoena." Even one year later, the Secret Service has made few changes and has been held minimally accountable. | 👮 ICE arrests surge while deportations lag behind. Immigration and Customs Enforcement arrested approximately 30,000 illegal migrants in June, the highest monthly total in five years. Yet deportations remain at only about half that rate, with 18,000 removed last month. The gap exposes the practical challenges in fulfilling Trump's promise to remove millions of illegals from American soil. | ⚕️ DOJ drops charges in fake vaccine card case. The Justice Department dismissed all charges against Dr. Kirk Moore, a Utah physician who had faced federal prosecution for allegedly providing fake COVID-19 vaccination cards. The decision marks one of the first visible signs of the administration's different approach to COVID-era enforcement actions compared to the Biden administration. This move from Attorney General Pam Bondi also comes while she is under fire for the Epstein files debacle. | 🌿 Feds raid Newsom donor's cannabis operation. Federal agents stormed Glass House Farms, a California cannabis facility whose president donated $10,000 to Governor Gavin Newsom (D). The Department of Homeland Security rescued nine unaccompanied minors during the raid, sparking violent clashes between agents and protesters. Despite the company's denials, the discovery of child labor at a major Democratic donor's business creates uncomfortable questions for Newsom. |

| | THE MAIN STORY | Mahmood Mamdani's radicalism resurfaces | | WHAT'S HAPPENING_ | The father of socialist NYC mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani is in the spotlight as his radical past (and present) views have risen to the surface during his son's campaign. | | _THE FACTS_ | Zohran Mamdani's father, Mahmood Mamdani, is an Indian-Ugandan academic known for his radical anti-colonial and anti-Western views. The elder Mamdani holds a position on the Gaza Tribunal's advisory policy council, an anti-Israel group launched in London in 2024. The Gaza Tribunal exists "to awaken civil society to its responsibility and opportunity to stop Israel's genocide in Gaza." In his 2004 book, Mahmood Mamdani declared that suicide bombing should not be "stigmatized as a mark of barbarism," and that suicide bombers ought to be recognized "as a category of soldier." Mahmood previously opposed humanitarian intervention in the brutal Darfur genocide, arguing that aid efforts in the region only served to expand Western imperialism. He has claimed that the Allied powers in World War II shared the Nazis' goal of exterminating minority populations in Europe. He is skeptical of nationhood itself and believes the nation-state naturally produces violence. Mahmood Mamdani is particularly critical of Israel's existence as a Jewish nation-state, saying that declaring itself to be Jewish was not tolerant, but "moved on to a terrain where ethnic cleansing became thinkable."
