Edition #1 • 4-Minute Read • PhD-Reviewed L'AMARUE Living – Holistic Sundays 🌱💙 Happy Sunday, and welcome to our new weekly newsletter! We're so excited to bring you a weekly dose of the most intriguing and important science-backed developments in skin and integrative wellness. We'll cover a bit of everything –– skin, mind, gut, recipes and tips, non-toxic alternatives, and more –– since it's all directly connected. And best of all... every newsletter is PhD-reviewed. Nowadays, a reported 50% of American adults are turning to alternative medicine and remedies1. So we're very excited to be able to highlight some of the most interesting and useful pieces of info to you every week! Without further ado, here we go! You're not going to want to miss this one. | | A fascinating new study from last year has shown the exciting (and startling) results of stopping usage of personal care products (like skincare) that contain parabens and phthalates2. In just 28 days without parabens and phthalates, the women were able to reduce the expression (or, activity) of breast cancer-associated genes by up to 90%. 🤯 It has been questioned for many years if the levels of parabens and/or phthalates in personal care products actually have an impact on health or not. This study largely puts that question to rest.
Why Does This Matter To Me? - Parabens are in 83% of all personal care products. They're in 89% of so-called "clean" products.[3]
- Phthalates are in 67% percent of personal care products, according to the FDA.[4]
- Alongside breast cancer, parabens and phthalates have also been linked to a long list of other health and skin concerns, such as: hormonal disruption[5], liver disease[6], childhood eczema[7], and more.
Our Tips and Thoughts* - Read your labels! Avoid products that contain ingredients such as: methylparaben, propylparaben, ethylparaben, butylparaben, isopropylparaben, isobutylparaben, dibutyl phthalate, diisononyl phthalate, diethyl phthalate, and dimethyl phthalate.
- Stay away from fragrances! Fragrances do not have to disclose all of their ingredients, and the vast majority contain parabens and/or phthalates.
- Retailers such as Whole Foods have banned products that contain parabens and phthalates from beauty products and food products that it sells. CVS has also banned parabens and phthalates from its own CVS-brand generic products, but not from other brands it carries.
You don't need to sacrifice your health for your skin to be great. We always formulate free from added parabens and phthalates, along with hundreds of other toxins. ............................................ That's all for this week! Short, sweet, and hopefully helpful. If you enjoyed the read, make sure to let us know and to forward this along to friends and family!
