SEC says it did not yet approve Bitcoin ETFsThe U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission’s official X account posted a notice on Tuesday evening falsely claiming it had approved listings for Bitcoin exchange-traded funds (ETFs), which has since been deleted. Minutes later, SEC Chair Gary Gensler said in a post on his own account that the agency’s account was “compromised, and an unauthorized tweet was posted.” The SEC followed up with a post reiterating Gensler’s statement. A spokesperson for the SEC also confirmed to CNBC that an “unknown party” had accessed its account. Late Tuesday night, a post from X's safety team disclosed, “Based on our investigation, the compromise was not due to any breach of X’s systems. but rather due to an unidentified individual obtaining control over a phone number associated with the @SECGov account through a third party.” Learn Web3 with us in 5 days: Lesson 2Blockchain technology serves as the foundation of Web3 💡 It provides a transparent, immutable, and secure ledger to record transactions and digital interactions Learn more about blockchain technology in our new course now by clicking the button below 🙌 Offices around America hit a new vacancy recordEmpty office spaces in the U.S. have hit a historic high, surpassing levels not seen since 1979, said Moody’s Analytics, which began tracking office leasing vacancies that year. This surplus stems largely from the significant shift in how people approach work post-Covid-19. The conventional 9-5 office schedule has given way to a hybrid model, allowing employees to work from home, triggering a massive cultural shift. Adding to this, an oversupply of office space built in the 1980s and 1990s worsened the situation, according to the report, released Monday. Moody's Analytics reported a record-high national office vacancy rate of 19.6% in Q4 2023, marking the most significant quarterly surge since early 2021 and surpassing the 19.3% level recorded only twice in four decades. Before the pandemic, the average office vacancy rate hovered around 16.8%. Tech SpecialVolkswagen is bringing ChatGPT into its cars and SUVs Volkswagen plans to integrate OpenAI's ChatGPT into its vehicles starting in mid-2024. The chatbot will feature in VW models like Tiguan, Passat, Golf, and their electric ID series, initially launching in Europe and potentially extending to the US. The purpose behind this integration is to enhance VW's in-car voice assistant, IDA, facilitating more natural interaction between drivers and vehicles. It will enable users to control basic functions, like heating and air conditioning, or ask “general knowledge questions.” VW emphasizes that using ChatGPT won't require you to create a new account or install any apps. Activating the chatbot can be done through voice command ("Hello IDA") or a steering wheel button. Additionally, VW assures users that their driving data remains secure, with all questions and answers immediately deleted for maximum data protection. China says It cracked Apple AirDrop to identify message sources A Chinese state-backed institute has developed a method to uncover the identities of individuals using Apple's AirDrop to send content. This breakthrough allows them to trace email addresses and phone numbers of senders, aiming to curb the circulation of "undesirable content," as reported by Bloomberg. Police have used this method to identify several suspects, enhancing case-solving efficiency, and preventing the spread of inappropriate material, according to Beijing's judicial bureau. Despite the successful identification of suspects, it remains unknown whether there were any arrests as a result. AirDrop, a feature that enables easy file sharing between Apple devices, has been used for various purposes, including sharing pro-democracy messages during the Hong Kong protests in 2019. While Apple advertises AirDrop as being secure since it employs Transport Layer Security encryption, the Beijing Municipal Bureau of Justice claims that a particular institute has found a way around the encryption.
