AstraZeneca partners with AI firm to develop cancer drugAnglo-Swedish drugmaker has partnered with U.S.-based artificial intelligence biologics firm Absci to design an antibody for cancer. According to a Financial Times report, AstraZeneca will invest up to $247 million in research and development, milestone payments, and an upfront fee for Absci. The collaboration aims to create a zero-shot generative AI model, which would create new and improved antibody therapeutics. The report didn’t specify the types of cancer involved. Absci’s website claims its AI screens “billions of cells” each week, going from antibodies to wet “lab-validated candidates” in about six weeks. Currently, the company participates in 17 active projects. Local council in Brazil passes ChatGPT-written proposalIn an unexpected turn, City lawmakers in Brazil unknowingly approved legislation written by ChatGPT, the Associated Press reported on Thursday. The legislation was passed in October in the southern city of Porto Alegre, and last week, city council member Ramiro Rosário revealed it was written using the AI chatbot. Rosário approached ChatGPT to draft a proposal ensuring that taxpayers wouldn't bear the cost of replacing water consumption meters. Interestingly, he presented the proposal to his 35 peers on the council without revealing its AI origin. “If I had revealed it before, the proposal certainly wouldn’t even have been taken to a vote,” Rosário told the AP “It would be unfair to the population to run the risk of the project not being approved simply because it was written by artificial intelligence.” Get instant answers from your data with AI and Hal9Chat with your enterprise databases using secure generative AI and empower business users in your team to do their own data analyses in seconds with Hal9! 💻 Check out Hal9, the ChatGPT for enterprise databases that lets you get instant information from your data, now by clicking the button below. Hackers steal ancestry, health-related data from 23andMeGenetic testing company 23andMe announced on Friday that hackers accessed around 14,000 customer accounts in a data breach last month. In a filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, the company said that, based on its investigation, it had determined that hackers had accessed 0.1% of its customer base. According to the company’s FY2023 earnings report, 23andMe has “more than 14 million customers worldwide,” which means 0.1% is around 14,000. The company also said that by accessing those accounts, the hackers were able to access “a significant number of files containing profile information about other users’ ancestry that such users chose to share when opting in to 23andMe’s DNA Relatives feature.” Learn Bitcoin with us in 5 days: Lesson 1Bitcoin's inception traces back to a whitepaper published in 2008 by an entity known as Satoshi Nakamoto 📃 Nakamoto proposed a novel digital currency aiming to decentralize financial systems and empower individuals Learn about the history of Bitcoin now on our educational platform by clicking the button below 🙌 Amazon calls on rival SpaceX to launch internet satellitesAmazon has purchased three Falcon 9 launches from SpaceX for its Project Kuiper mega-constellation. The move follows a lawsuit against Amazon for disregarding SpaceX in its initial round of launch contracts despite the company's reputation as the most reliable rocket company globally. Scheduled to commence in mid-2025, the Falcon 9 missions will aid Kuiper's plan to establish a constellation of 3,236 satellites in low Earth orbit, mandated by the U.S. Federal Communications Commission to deploy half by 2026. To meet the FCC requirement, Amazon swiftly secured 83 launches from Arianespace, Blue Origin, and United Launch Alliance last year at an expected cost of many billions of dollars. Subsequently, Amazon shareholders filed a suit against the board for allegedly spending under 40 minutes approving these agreements without considering SpaceX as an option.
