Invisibilia Origin Story: I have probably sent the first episode of Invisibilia to all my friends at some point. The Secret History of Thoughts, for me, was a revelation worth sharing, and I quickly became a fan and evangelist for the show. I listened whenever I was looking for a bit of wisdom, or struggling with something in my life. Years later, I was lucky enough to be granted a spot in the Third Coast Radio Residency, where I met B.A. Parker. She worked for the show at the time, which I thought was extremely impressive. |

When Parker moved on to another job opportunity, she mentioned my name. I am forever grateful to Parker for doing that – it truly revealed the power of someone saying your name in a room. I came to NPR and Invisibilia in 2019 on what was supposed to be a temporary assignment and stayed. In my wildest dreams, I never imagined I’d have the opportunity to host this show. |
Favorite episodes you've worked on:All the stories I’ve worked on are my favorites, for different reasons! Traveling with Hanna Rosin to tape the kids at a camp in Boston for The Confrontation was a lot of fun, and the first time I’d gotten to travel to report a story. There was a very captivating energy in that space, and I really enjoyed the work of field reporting. |

The Great Narrative Escape was a fun immersive radio experience – that type of audio that always feels exciting to me. Making a moody and vibey soundscape for the Friends with Benefits episode was a chance for me to marry my love of music with story in a really felt way. Shout out to producer Addie Lancianese on the sound design and scoring. Freedom Diving was a labor of love! It was also very much an episode that allowed me to really stretch and experiment with form and style. Khoebe forever. |

Invisibilia insights you’ve actually used in real life: One of the most interesting and fruitful research wormholes I’ve ever been down was a small anecdote from the episode The New Norm. It was about Claire Nuer, a leadership coach who used the power of her thoughts to essentially stave off illness. She had a small cancerous growth in her eye and she meditated daily about a blanket surrounding the eye, so that the cancer would not spread. Years later, when she ultimately had to have her eye removed, doctors found that the cancerous growth was surrounded by nerves. It’s a controversial anecdote, but it has always stuck with me. The mind is a powerful tool. |
