JD Sports moves to head off potential shareholder revolt over executive pay

JD Sports has moved to head off a potential shareholder revolt over executive pay.

The retail giant was criticised by investors in July after it was revealed former boss Peter Cowgill had been paid almost £6m in bonuses since February 2021.

The awards were made despite the listed group receiving more than £100m in government support during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Now JD Sports has published a revised directors' remuneration policy as well as a new Long Term Incentive Plan and Deferred Bonus Plan. They will be voted on at a general meeting on December 13.

A businessman who partnered with influencer Molly-Mae Hague to launch a fake tan brand has stepped down as the company's director.

George Gazzard no longer holds the position at Filter by Molly-Mae, which was established in 2019, according to a document filed with Companies House.

Mr Gazzard had been a director since November that year alongside the former Love Island star.

Filter by Molly-Mae is registered at Liverpool's Royal Liver Building while the influencer is now the company's sole director.

The move comes after the businessman's Catalyst Global, which he co-founded, entered liquidation in September.
