Daily Capsule | 8th June 2022

Hello Readers,

What causes ‘burnout’?

According to the World Health Organisation (WHO), burnout results “from chronic workplace stress that has not been successfully managed. It is characterised by three dimensions—feelings of energy depletion or exhaustion; increased mental distance from one’s job, or feelings of negativism or cynicism related to one’s job…”

Simply put, it is the state of mental, emotional, and physical exhaustion caused by excessive and continuous stress . This has seen an exponential increase in the last two years due to the added stress caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Microsoft Trend Index 2020 found that India had the second-highest employees (29 percent) facing increased burnout across Asia.

On Entrepreneurship 101 today, we discuss how individuals and companies can help prevent it, what causes it, and what to do if you are burnt out. Read more .
