Box Office: Marvel’s New Normal & Summer Predictions

The box office is still saved . . . right?

There were no new major releases this weekend — and Richard and Sean aren’t sure if Lionsgate has even heard of its own movie Shadow Force. But what they do know is that Marvel flicks no longer warrant a two-week buffer zone given how both pretty good ones (Thunderbolts*) and bad ones (Captain America 4) perform these days.

But fear not! The Monday Morning QBs use the quiet period to take a more forward-looking view of the box office and make their picks for the top three movies by Labor Day.

There’s Lilo & Stitch, a surefire money-printing machine with a clear runway, the “final” Mission: Impossible (is David Ellison aware of that?) and an R-rated comedy — yes, Richard’s white whale in the modern multiplex — that could be this summer’s sleeper hit.

Richard and Sean weigh all those films and more in this edition of their weekly box office show.
