Plans in for £31m project to build UK's lowest carbon offices

Formal plans have been submitted to build what could be the UK's lowest carbon office building in Greater Manchester.

Bruntwood Works is behind the £31m plans for The EV0 Building on land at Didsbury Technology Park. The proposals were first revealed in May and would include space for around 955 employees.

At the time, it was expected that construction could start in January 2023 if Manchester City Council approved the scheme and be completed in April 2024.

However, that estimation has now been put back to the summer, with the completion date pencilled in for autumn 2024.

If backed, the building will include 82,000 sq ft of office space across six floors and sit between the Sir William Siemens House, Spire Hospital and Bruntwood Works' Ohm Building.

Eve Sleep administrators braced for 'significant claims' from creditors despite sale to Bensons for Beds

The joint administrators of Eve Sleep are braced for "significant claims" against the brand after it collapsed two weeks ago.

The AIM-listed business, which operates in the UK, Ireland and France, appointed Matt Ingram and Jimmy Saunders from Kroll on October 17 to handle the affairs of the company.

Kroll then managed the sale of its brand and intellectual property to Lancashire-headquartered Bensons for Beds.

According to a new document filed by Kroll with Companies House, Eve Sleep owed more than £2.8m when it entered administration.

The joint administrators also said that more claims are expected to be made against Eve Sleep.

Morrisons puts 1,300 McColl's workers at risk of redundancy with plans to shut 132 stores

Around 1,300 McColl's workers have been put at risk of redundancy as part of proposals from Morrisons to shut 132 loss-making stores at the convenience chain it bought earlier this year.

The supermarket giant rescued McColl's earlier this year when it was on the brink of collapse.

Bradford-based Morrisons, which is owned by US private equity firm Clayton, Dubilier & Rice, announced on May 9 that it had acquired all of McColl's 1,160 stores, which include 270 Morrisons Daily format stores, saving 16,000 jobs. It beat a rival bid by the billionaire Issa brothers' EG Group.

Sales fall £100m back to pre-Covid levels at major PPE supplier as pandemic eases

The end of the Covid-19 pandemic's height led to a near £100m drop in turnover at a provider of PPE to frontline workers, it has been revealed.

Woolston-based Crest Medical enjoyed a spike in its turnover from £50.7m to £150.7m in the 12 months to March 31, 2021, as the pandemic hit the UK. That led to it posting pre-tax profits of £7.1m, up from £37,229.

However, as the need for PPE declined in the year to March 31, 2022, the company's turnover dropped to £54.9m while its profits totalled £764,417.

The sales spike during its previous financial year led to the business being named as one of the fastest-growing private companies in the North West.
