Silentnight losses continue to widen despite sales rise as headcount falls by 250

Silentnight's headcount fell by almost 250 people as its losses widened by almost £6m during its latest financial year, it has been revealed.


Newly-filed documents with Companies House show that the

Lancashire-headquartered business employed an average of 723 people during the 12 months to January 29, 2022, down from 971 in the prior period.


The latest accounts also show Silentnight's pre-tax losses widened from £1.2m to £7.1m despite its turnover rising from £110.8m to £121.6m.


Before the Covid-19 pandemic, the company's turnover stood at £133.9m and its losses at £888,000.

BBC to make major MediaCity move to help cut costs

The BBC has revealed plans to exit Bridge House in MediaCity, Salford, where BBC Children's and Education and some BBC Sport and operations staff are based.


Staff are to move to nearby alternative MediaCity sites - Quay House and Dock House.


The BBC said the plans will reduce the size of its property portfolio as part of ongoing reforms to "deliver a simpler, leaner and more efficient organisation".


The moves are expected to be completed in the spring of 2024.

Hollyoaks and Celebs Go Dating maker bounces back from pandemic slump

The maker of Hollyoaks, The Only Way is Essex and Geordie Shore bounced back from the Covid-19 pandemic during its latest financial year, it has been revealed.


Liverpool-headquartered Lime Pictures achieved a turnover of £63.3m and pre-tax profits of £5.2m in 2021, up from £50.8m and £3.2m in 2020, according to recently-filed documents with Companies House.


Those figures compare to a turnover of £69.5m and pre-tax profits of £5.7m it reported in 2019.

Castore to create 150 jobs at 'mystery' distribution centre

Fast-growing Manchester-headquartered sports clothes seller Castore has announced the opening of a new distribution centre that is expected to create up to 150 jobs.


It's undoubtly good news for the firm, which was founded by brothers Tom and Phil Beahon (pictured), and will make a positive impact to the local economy around the new centre.


However, the release proclaiming the news only revealed the 111,327 sq ft site is based "in the North West of England".


When pressed by BusinessLive for a more exact location, the company's PR representatives offered that the centre is "off the M62 between Manchester and Liverpool".

Profits more than double at Bentley as new models drive sales

Luxury car maker Bentley more than doubled its profits during the first three quarters of its financial year "despite continuing challenges and uncertainty in the global economy".


The Crewe-headquartered company has posted operating profits of €575m for the nine-month period, up from the €275m it achieved during the same time in its previous financial year.


The business, which is owed by VW, has also reported a revenue of €2.490bn, up 28% from €1.949bn.


The 23.1% return on sales was the highest in Bentley's 103-year history, the firm added.
