| TOKYO -- Long discouraged from taking trips overseas by onerous COVID-19 restrictions, Japan's travelers are flocking back to international routes now that the rules are being eased. The government on Wednesday increased the daily arrivals cap to 50,000 people from 20,000. It also scrapped a requirement for a negative COVID-19 test result within 72 hours of departure, lowering the hurdle for overseas business travel. All Nippon Airways and Japan Airlines are seeing a major uptick in reservations, with new bookings for flights abroad in October roughly doubling after the government announced its plans. But foreign tourists are not as lucky, they still will be required to visit on packaged tours. Chaperones, however, will no longer be mandatory. Read here
