This Adorable Swiss Town Looks Straight Out of a Dr. Seuss Book

Can you believe it's August already? I guess I kind of can. There's really nothing more predictable than the gradual and inevitable slog of time. In fact, to some extent, there's nothing more believable than the fact that time has moved forward and it is now a different time than it was before. Even so, I cannot believe it's August! I said I was going to solve all the world's problems in July, read every new Thrillist article, embrace all of my temperamental flaws and use them to my advantage, make amends for every wrong I've ever done, seek out apologies for all the wrongs done to me, and read all of Proust. Guess I'll have to do that in August.

If you love adorable Swiss towns, coconut flan, blood orange spritz cocktails that are perfect for Leo season, Airbnbs for "digital nomads," and a fun new movie on Hulu, you are going to love today's stories.

It's time for me to learn how to surf, even though I have absolutely no coordination or natural survival instincts and am stultifyingly afraid of sharks.

Time is of the essence,

I'd say it's time for you to try making your own coconut flan at home. I know what you're thinking: Making flan sounds complicated. But this recipe from the new Tastemade cookbook, Make This Tonight, makes the whole endeavor much less intimidating. In fact, that's the whole point of this new cookbook, as the title suggests. These are accessible approaches to ambitious recipes that will have you looking in the mirror and going, "You did that!" to your own reflection when the flan is done.

While you certainly don't need an astrological justification for swinging open the liquor cabinet doors and mixing yourself a cocktail in these topsy-turvy times, it's always fun to have a little mystical inspiration behind your concoction. Resident astrological mixologist Danielle Dorsey has the perfect take on a classic Italian aperitivo for Leo season. I'm just glad we're out of Cancer season, because we all know that a strong cocktail and strong emotions don't always mix well.

I don't have to tell you that Hudson, New York is an upstate idyll, a small city seemingly built as a collaboration between crafty bohemian types and an affluent gay couple that loves Halloween. It's Rip Van Winkle vibes if Rip Van Winkle was fabulous, had an Equinox membership, and was also a talented ceramicist. I love to visit Hudson and connect with all the cozy beauty it has to offer. And now, I know where I should stay: The Maker Hotel. The Maker is a marvel of vintage architecture and well-appointed luxury. It even has a Fragrance Library.
