The leader of the Dane County Democratic Party is preparing to challenge long-time Secretary of State Doug La Follette in a primary this summer. Sachin Chheda, a Democratic consultant, said Wednesday that he's helping Alexia Sabor prepare to enter the race. Sabor has not responded to a message seeking comment. She describes herself on Twitter as a "politigeek, environmentalist, foodie, patient advocate." Her decision to enter the race comes as the 86-year-old La Follette faces a formidable challenge from Republican state Rep. Amy Loudenbeck, who has said she wants to shift oversight of Wisconsin elections from the state elections commission to the secretary of state's office.

AG hopeful Jarchow proposes law enforcement plan

Republican attorney general hopeful Adam Jarchow is proposing a four-pronged plan to control violent crime. Jarchow released his plan Wednesday. It would waive tuition and forgive student loans for those entering law enforcement. It would also create a statewide violent crimes task force; allow the state Justice Department to directly charge offenders in gun cases; and fund mental health initiatives for students and train police officers stationed in schools. Jarchow is vying with Fond du Lac County District Attorney Eric Toney for the GOP nomination in the Aug. 9 primary. The winner will face incumbent Democrat Josh Kaul in the Nov. 8 general election.
