PM vows budget will tackle rising cost of living 'immediately'

It's Budget Day 2022 and the government's electoral prospects are likely to ride in part on how it's received. 

Treasurer Josh Frydenberg will start the day with a traditional morning news conference as he arrives at Parliament just before 8am. 

Opposition Leader Anthony Albanese will address the Labor Caucus at 9.30am in Canberra, his final pep talk to his parliamentary team before the election campaign begins.

The Budget lock-up begins at 1.30pm, with journalists given six hours to digest the document before the Treasurer's speech at 7.30pm.

Sky News will have immediate analysis and reaction from 8pm - including interviews with Mr Frydenberg and Shadow Treasurer Jim Chalmers.
