From the Edit Page An increased risk of State surveillance The government recently introduced the Identification of Prisoners Bill, 2022, in the Lok Sabha to provide for modern "measurement" techniques of convicts and other persons, make the investigation of crime more "efficient and expeditious", and increase conviction rates. The Bill seeks to repeal the Identification of Prisoners Act, 1920, which is in need of modernisation. However, the Bill goes a step too far and marks an increase in the surveillance powers of the State. Read more. |
Number Theory What challenges does the new fiscal bring to the Indian economy? On April 1, 2021, India opened its Covid-19 vaccination programme for those above 45 years of age. On May 1, 2021, it was thrown open for all adults in the country. On May 28, 2021, the government said that it intended to vaccinate India's entire adult population by December 31, 2021. While the drive has been a huge success, around 97% of the country's estimated adult of population of 940 million received at least one shot of the Covid-19 vaccine by March 29, 2022, according to health ministry's press release.
